Search Online and Support KDL…

We all use search engines to find what we’re looking for on the web, but did you know that each search you make could help support the Kent District Library?  That’s right, for each search conducted using GoodSearch, a small donation is made to a worthy cause of your choice.  There is no fee incurred by the user and the search results are based on the popular Yahoo! search engine, so you know you’re getting the most relevent and accurate results available.

 To use GoodSearch, just go to, type in the name of the cause you wish to support (in this case, Kent District Library) and then search away!  For answers to a few frequently asked questions, check out this page

We recommend bookmarking, adding to your browser toolbar, or setting as your search homepage, the GoodSearch site. You’ll also find links to GoodSearch page from the sidebar of the About, Reference Resources, and Teen sections of our website.

GoodSearch is just one way KDL creates additional revenue to support our library efforts. Be sure to check out our bookseller affiliate programs as well for additional ways to support KDL. Your support keeps us going strong.

Holiday Closing…

Are you looking for a way to stay connected to all of the library news and information you want to know?  Then subscribe to KDL’s RSS feeds and get KDL news delivered to you!  RSS (Really Simple Syndication), let’s you subscribe to multiple news “feeds” or sources and compile them into a single interface known as an RSS reader.  You can even subscribe to RSS feeds directly using most current Internet browsers (i.e. Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.).  For more information on RSS, check out this page.

From library news, events, and materials information to the latest happenings in Teen and Youth services, KDL’s RSS feeds will keep you connected!

21st Century Library Design

At the Michigan Library Association conference held November 4-7 in Lansing, Pamela VanderPloeg (KDL Assistant Director, Facilities, Circulation and Collection) and Cheryl Garrison, (KDL Assistant Director, Programs, Outreach and Marketing) shared with librarians from throughout the state tips on how to revitalize their libraries to make them relevant and welcoming.  Our session was called 21st Century Library Design and while it was developed for librarians, we invite you to view the Powerpoint too.

As always, we strive to deliver the best in library services to our customers and encourage you to let us know how we’re doing — and how we might do it better!

Toys For Tots ’07

Once again this year, the Kent District Library will participate in holiday giving through Toys for Tots. Sponsored by the U.S. Marines, Toys for Tots delivers new toys to children throughout our communities. Thanks to Toys for Tots, deserving children can experience all the fun and joy of the holidays!

Five KDL branch locations will serve as collection sites for new, unwrapped toys: Cascade, Grandville, Kentwood, Rockford, and

Wyoming. Donation boxes will be available at these locations through December 20. Patrons may drop off their contributions at these branches.

New Antiques and Legal Forms Databases

The Kent District Library has recently added two new databases to our growing research databases collection; Price It! Antiques and Collectibles and Thomson Gale LegalForms.  Our Price It! database cross-indexes price and value listings from a variety of sources including eBay, GoAntiques,, and Select Auction Houses, to help you find the most accurate price of your antique or collectible.  From action figures to teapots, Price It! is your online price guide.

Thomson Gale LegalForms database provides thousands of printable legal forms, including official, state specific, federal, business, personal, real estate, and more.  Also included a legal definitions index, an attorney directory, and more!  Check it out on KDL’s research databases page.  A valid Kent District Library card is required to access these databases from home.

Welcome to the New!

Thank you for visiting the brand new website!  Although you’ll still find all of the great content you’ve come to expect, including all the latest information on library news, events, and resources, we’ve updated the site with a fresh new look and added a few new features that we think you’ll enjoy!  Among some of these new features are:
