Are You Vampired Out?

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

So you loved the Twilight series, but you’re tired of vampires? Maybe you’ll like one of these great new books featuring immortals, pixies or ghosts! Click on any of the titles or pictures to place your hold, or go to www.kdl.org today.

Evermore by Alyson Noel

There’s no reason Ever should have escaped the car crash that took the lives of her family, but the experience leaves her with the ability to hear the thoughts of everyone around her.  To help herself cope, she tries to block out everyone who tries to get close, but then she falls for the gorgeous Damen, who seems to have even more secrets than she does…

 Need by Carrie Jones

After the death of her beloved stepfather, Zara is sent against her will to live with her eccentric grandmother in a small town in Maine.  Soon she finds herself being stalked by a strange man whom Zara is convinced is responsible for the disappearances of two boys.

Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender

I LOVE this cover!  15-year-old Lexi’s sister Kasey has always been annoying, but lately she’s downright scary.  Sometimes she talks like she comes from another century, and her normally blue eyes suddenly turn green.  Their old Victorian house is creeping her out too; doors open and close by themselves, water boils on an unlit stove.  Lexi tries to believe it’s all in her head, but when Kasey starts to threaten her family and friends, Lexi knows she has to do something to stop her sister.  But will anyone believe her?  This one doesn’t come out until April 21st, but I couldn’t wait to tell you about it!  Place your hold by clicking here!

We’ve Got Wii!

Friday, June 20th, 2008

You spoke, and we listened!  Earlier this year, we surveyed teens in all KDL libraries and asked which game format they thought we should add to our videogame collection, and the overwhelming answer was Wii.  So if you want to check out the new Wii titles, stop in at your local branch.  They’re free, and you can check them out for three weeks!  Overdue fines of .15 per day apply if you bring ‘em back late.  Be sure to check out our current selection of PS2 and PC-based games too!

Tamora Pierce Author Visit a HUGE Success!

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Thanks to everyone who came to the Cascade Branch last week to see fantasy author Tamora Pierce.  Over a hundred VERY excited fans were present to hear Tamora talk and have their books signed.  She was scheduled to appear from 6:30 until 8:00, but the last book was signed at around 10:30 p.m.  She insisted on staying until every last book was signed, and some went through the line FOUR TIMES!  Clearly Tamora loves her fans as much as they love her!

Were you there?  We’d love to hear what you thought!

What is the best book you read over your holiday break?

schooled.jpg

O.K., I’ll start!!  I just finished “Schooled” by Gordon Korman.  It’s the story of 8th grader Capricorn “Cap” Anderson, who is home schooled by his hippie grandmother, Rain.  Cap and Rain are the only residents of their commune, so when Rain breaks her hip, Cap is forced to live with his social worker and attend public school until Rain is able to take care of herself again.  The students at Claverage (C-Average) Middle School have never seen anything like Cap, who looks like he’s been beamed in directly from the ’60′s, so no one is surprised when he becomes the target of a prank masterminded by the school’s ruling clique.  The result?  He is elected class president, and is too clueless to know he’s been punked!  Wanna check it out?

I’ve Finished “Eclipse” by Stephenie Meyer. What Do I Read Now?

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

If you liked Eclipse, you must read the new “House of Night” series by mother-daughter team P.C. and Kristin Cast.  P.C. is a veteran paranormal romance writer, and her daughter, Kristin is a college student!  The first novel (of at least six, yay!) is Marked, and it is the story of 16-year-old Zoey Redbird, who lives in a place where vampyres exist side-by-side with mortals.  The “vamps” are tolerated by humans, but their relationship isn’t exactly friendly.

Zoey feels like she doesn’t fit in anywhere.  Her mom has married a guy she can’t stand (and the feeling is mutual!).  Her jock boyfriend is turning into a brainless party boy, and her shallow best friend is becoming increasingly annoying.   Just when she thinks her life can’t get any worse, she gets marked as “special” by the vamps, which means she must move immediately to an exclusive boarding school for fledglings vampyres–or die.

The second title, Betrayed, is out too!  If you’ve read these great titles, or can suggest any other great books, please leave a comment!
