Krause Memorial Branch

The Krause Memorial Branch will open at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, in order to accommodate the Rockford Start of Summer Celebration. The branch normally opens at 9:30 AM on Saturdays.

Enjoy the Sweet Sounds of Summer

MusicSit back, relax and enjoy some great music. Our program line-up includes several performances that will fill our branches with some sweet summer sounds. The shows are open to all ages and they are all free… it’s music to my ears!

Native American Dancers
Dancing, drumming and stories. Watch traditional Native American stories come alive through a storyteller and dancers, including a hoop dancer.

Radical Reptiles
Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary engages young minds with fascinating facts and real-life encounters with snakes, alligators and turtles.

John Ball Traveling Zoo
Come learn about animals and even get a chance to meet some!

Pet Shows
Is your pet a star? Every critter’s a winner in this unique show designed to put the spotlight on your furry, scaly or feathered friend. All acts must pre-register. Visit your local branch for more details.

Amazing Bats
Can you fly with your hands? Bats can! Meet and learn about the Organization for Bat Conservation’s live bats from around the world.

Agility Dogs Extraordinaire!
Witness extraordinary feats including free-style dancing, nose work and pulling carts, performed by talented dogs from The Well Mannered Dog Center. Learn how these special canines are trained both to be helper dogs and to compete in agility shows.

Farm on the Go
The Critter Barn of Zeeland brings a little of the farm to the city in a program featuring the cutest barnyard animals around for you to touch and pet.

Ruff Readers
KDL is celebrating 10 years of Ruff Readers in partnership with West Michigan Therapy Dogs, Inc. Ruff Readers is a unique read-aloud program that pairs kids with a trained therapy dog and their handler. Kids read their favorite book and the pooches just curl up and listen. Pre-registration is required and spots are limited. Kids will be given a 15-minute time slot as they arrive. For ages 6 and older.

With programs for kids, teens and adults, we are inviting the whole family to Ignite Happiness @ KDL. And if discovering some great books isn’t enough of an incentive to participate, we have also got some awesome prizes up for grabs!

Teen Poetry Contest Winners

WordWiseKDL’s eleventh annual Teen Poetry Contest was a huge success thanks to all the great teen poets out there. This year, nearly 200 poems were submitted. Library staff reviewed the poems and narrowed down the entries, submitting them to former Grand Rapids Poet Laureate, David Cope, for final analysis. Ten winners were chosen and a PDF of the winning poems is available for your reading pleasure.
