hooplaExciting news! Our video streaming service, hoopla, is expanding! Beginning today, hoopla now offers free access to eBooks and Comics. Don’t forget to update your hoopla app so you can enjoy these new formats (unless your device has automatic update, of course). Visit the hoopla site and scroll down to view available eBooks and Comics.

Summer Reading @ KDL Coming Soon!

Celebrate HeroesThe school year is winding down, and that means we are gearing up for Summer Reading @ KDL. With programs for kids, teens and adults, we are inviting the whole family to Celebrate Heroes @ KDL. And if discovering some great books isn’t enough of an incentive to participate, we have also got some awesome prizes up for grabs!

Summer Reading @ KDL kicks off on Monday, June 1. Stop by your local branch to sign up, and don’t forget to mark your calendar for some awesome programs. Our summer line-up includes magic, animals, food and music, just to name a few!

Celebrate KDL Photo Contest Logo WEB (2)We have chosen 50 photos as semi-finalists in the Celebrate KDL Photo Contest! Visit www.kdl.org/photocontest to vote for your favorite!

One vote per photo per computer per day may be cast between now and Sunday, May 24. Winning photos will be featured in an upcoming Celebrate KDL 2016 Calendar which will be sold to raise funds for library programs. Winners will be announced on Monday, June 1.

Introducing Beanstack: Reading Recommendations for Kids

beanstackWe are so excited to offer our patrons Beanstack, a resource that offers free personalized recommendations for children’s book and apps! It’s a great way to connect children with books that match their specific age, interests, reading level and background. Sign your children up today and every week you will be sent a book recommendation for each child via email. Recommendations are also available via an online profile that you can access anytime from any mobile device!

Book Bash is Coming Soon!

BookBash-KDL_jpgBook Bash is right around the corner! We hope you plan to attend our Giant Warehouse Book Sale, featuring more than 20,000 gently-used books and other items that will be available for just 50 cents to $1 each. Sunday is Bag Day — $6 buys as many items as you can fit in a bag. All proceeds support Summer Reading @ KDL and other branch programs. Held at the KDL Service Center, 814 West River Center Dr. NE in Comstock Park.

Teen Poetry Contest: Enter Today!

PoetryApril is National Poetry Month, and that means KDL is hosting our 12th annual Word Wise teen poetry contest.

From April 1 to April 30, teens are invited to submit their original poems online or at their local KDL branch.  Winners will receive a $50 gift card to Schuler Books & Music.  The winning poems will be published on the KDL website.  Take some time to check out our teen page for a complete list of rules and an online entry form.
