Read It Before You See It

If you are looking for your next vacation read, you might want to try some of the current and new books being brought to life on the screen. From classics to science fiction to historical, there is a variety coming to theaters (and TV!) that you can read before you see:

  • The Great Gatsby (out now) – a splashy new version of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic
  • World War Z (out June 21) – a horror novel by Max Brooks
  • Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (out August 7) – second in the Rick Riordan series
  • The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (out August 23) – an adaptation of the popular teen series by Cassandra Clare
  • Call the Midwife (a TV series on PBS in season 2) – based on the memoir by Jennifer Worth

Calling All Teen Volunteers

Do you like helping out and meeting new people? Do you want volunteer experience and the satisfaction of knowing that you helped promote reading and literacy in your community? 

KDL is looking for volunteers to sign up for the Teen Crew this summer. If you are a teen entering grades 6 to 12 in the fall and you are self-motivated and reliable, the library might be the place for you. As a volunteer you will have the chance to help our staff with various duties including children’s programs, putting books away, signing-up people for the summer reading program, crafts and much more! Stop by your local KDL branch to pick up a teen crew application today; spaces fill quickly for this great opportunity.

Caledonia Branch Groundbreaking

On Wednesday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m., approximately 225 community members and library and local officials celebrated the long-awaited groundbreaking of the over 17,000-square-foot Caledonia Township Library.  The new library is planned to achieve silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), with an expected opening in January of 2011. 

The new library will feature a local history room, large early literacy area and children’s library, a teen area, quiet study rooms, a community meeting room, drive-up book return, and more!  Watch it being built at 6260 92nd Street.  For more information, visit
