50 competitors and even more spectators were on hand for Kent District Library’s latest videogame tournament. Hosted by the Kentwood branch and featuring MarioKart, the field was fun, fast, and furious. The finals featured a down-to-the-wire contest that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The final results are……..

Our next tournament will be held at the Wyoming branch on Saturday, January 14. The game will be Super Smash Bros. Sign up early to ensure your spot!

To celebrate the end of Summer Reading Club, the Kentwood branch is hosting Kentwoodpalooza! Taking place on July 28 at 5:30 PM at the Library Amphitheatre (community room if the weather is bad), this event will feature awesome music by local teen rock bands.

Free hot dogs and root beer while they last. Doors will open at 5:15 PM.                      

This exciting event is sponsored by Kent District Library, Friends of the Kentwood Library, Kentwood Cat Clinic, Dr. Joseph Antonucci, Breton Gardens Family Dentistry, and Cooks Hot Dogs.

We are pleased to announce that WKTV will be airing the 2011 KDL Teen Film Festival on the following dates…           

Saturday, June 18, 11:00AM & 7:30PM

Friday, June 24, 11:30AM

So if you missed it on the big screen or want to relive the excitement, tune in to Channel 25 (Kentwood, Gaines, Wyoming) or ATT U-VERSE 99.

KDL Teen Film Festival Results

Nearly 200 people were on hand this past Saturday to view ten outstanding films in the KDL Teen Film Festival. Thanks to Celebration! Cinema North and Peninsular Technologies for once again partnering with Kent District Library to provide a fun-filled event for area teens.

When the film stopped rolling (or rather, the DVD stopped spinning), the judges arrived at a decision.    

And the winner is…………..

Kent District Library announces the finalists for the 5th Annual Teen Filmmaking Contest.

We had a total of 23 amazing submissions for the Filmmaking contest. After much deliberating, our esteemed selection panel has chosen ten films to move forward for viewing and judging on February 12.

Filmmaking Contest Deadline Draws Near

Happy New Year to all aspiring filmmakers!  This is a reminder that Teen Filmmaking Contest movies must be turned in by Saturday, January 8, 2011. For those of you working right up to the last minute, works will be accepted at any KDL branch.  Just make sure the envelopes are clearly marked Filmmaking Contest Attn: Kentwood Branch. Good Luck!!

KDL Teen Filmmaking Contest

All Kent County teens, grades 6-12, are invited to enter KDL’s 5th Annual Teen Filmmaking Contest.  Selected films from the contest will be screened Saturday, February 12,  from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Celebration! Cinema North.  There will be $200 in prize money awarded for the best films in various categories. Additional information, rules and all necessary forms can be found here.

All submissions must be in by January 8,  so grab your camera for “TAKE 1!”

Wii Tournament — The Results Are In!!

On Saturday, October 16, twenty-eight contestants vied to see who would be crowned MarioKart Champion in the latest installment of KDL’s gaming series. The event was the first ever tournament at the new Kentwood Branch. Competition was fierce but friendly, and the finals saw some intense, close races. After  the dust cleared, the results were………

1st Place: Ben Licata ($50 GameStop Gift Card)

2nd Place: Dylan Grochawalski ($25 gift card)                         

3rd Place: Josh Rouse ($15 gift card)

4th Place: Rebecca Licata ($10 gift card)

The next exciting installment of KDL’s gaming series will be held January 29, 2011 at the beautiful Wyoming Branch. Hope to see you there!
