Seen & Heard – Libraries Obsolete? Hardly!

A few talking points for non-library users who assume our place in communities is on the wane:

– In February alone, KDL added 1,362 new cardholders, bringing the system close to 230,000 overall patrons. In addition, 4,026 people attended 69 events system-wide.

– In 2011, KDL’s ebook and eAudiobook circulation rose an astounding 192%. Also last year, total circulation of materials for loan spiked by 7%, to 6.8 million items.

– An employee at Steelcase Inc., a regular user of the Grandville branch, recently told staff that many of his co-workers were using KDL’s online Mango language-learning database to improve their language skills as jobs begin to move to Malaysia.

– In response to patron requests, a laptop lounge at the Krause Memorial branch is set to open this month. The lounge will provide additional space to laptop or mobile device users who need access to electrical outlets and a quiet place to work.
