Author Dick Francis Dies at Age 89
Author Dick Francis died on Sunday at the age of 89. He was born in Pembrokeshire, UK in 1920 and died at his home in Grand Cayman. Dick Francis was well known for his thriller novels that revolved around the horse racing industry. His most recent books were co-authored with his son Felix Francis. The focus of Dick Francis’ books is not surprising considering his first career as a steeplechase jockey. He was a champion jockey during the 1953-54 season and only took up writing after being asked, indirectly, to retire by the Queen Mother in 1957.
Dick Francis was a best-selling author and won many awards for his works including being made a Mystery Writers of America Grand Master.

What a sad loss. All of his books are terrific reads – and especially interesting for horse people. Thank you Dick Francis for hours upon hours of suspenseful of readings. Rest in peace!
