Thanks to the generosity of donors to the KDL Fund, exciting things are happening for young children and their families.
Since its inception in late 2007, the KDL Annual Fund has invested over $49,000 in KDL’s literacy programs for young children.
Thoughtful donors to the KDL Fund are making these initiatives a reality.
Early Literacy Computer Stations — Donations to the KDL Annual Fund have already enabled us to reach young children with Early Literacy Computer Stations in nine of our branch libraries. The Early Literacy Station from AWE is a stand-alone computer system containing over 40 educational software programs in English and Spanish. The educational software spans seven curricular areas targeted for toddlers through second grade. The goal is for all KDL branches to have an Early Literacy Computer Station.
Play, Grow, Read… To Your Baby! — Donations to the KDL Annual Fund will provide 1,500 new first-time parents in the KDL service area with a Play Grow Read… To Your Baby packet. The packet contains a board book, invitation to babytime at KDL, application for baby’s first library card, and materials featuring reading tips and early literacy information.
Imagination Stations — Donations to the KDL Annual Fund have provided for the creation of the first Imagination Station. An Imagination Station fosters a child’s imagination through dramatic play. One month the Imagination Station is a store complete with child-size shopping carts and play food, and the next month it is a bank with play money, cash registers, and coin rolls. The play station will be unveiled when KDL’s Kentwood Branch opens in its new facility later this year.
Together we can do so much more for young children.
Please consider a gift in support of KDL’s literacy programs for young children.
