The craft beer boom is overflowing in Michigan. And if  my circle of friends and I are any indication, so is home beer brewing and hard cider making. For me, those five-gallon carboys of fermenting apple cider gurgling away in my basement “sewing room” produce a tasty, affordable alternative to the often pricey store-bought offerings — even with the increased prices because of this season’s drought.

There’s nothing like a book to get you started making your own hooch at home. At KDL, books and videos on making beer and hard cider should make the process – and your final product – a whole lot smoother.
