New eBook Site Viewing Options

OverDrive has updated our eBook site once again, this time offering some new options for viewing titles.

In addition to the existing Cover view, you can now select to view titles in a Grid or List, each of which provide more information about each title:

(Also, note that the option for changing the search results from “My library’s collection” to “Only titles with copies available” or “Additional titles to recommend” has now moved to the top of the left column.)

These updates were made in part due to user feedback — If you have suggestions for OverDrive, please fill out their survey and you could win an iPad!

Happy Downloading!

Why does a search in the eBooks (OverDrive) site produce more results than what is asked for? How should one do a query for an author? I enter “John Smith” in the Author portion of the Advanced Search and I get all Johns and all Smiths.(This search returned 643 results.) If I were to ask for John Smith in the simple search, it returns (681 results) every title with either John or Smith, plus authors, etc.

    Thank you.

    Hi Pam,

Yes, the OverDrive site does err on the side of being *too* comprehensive in the search results sometimes! The easiest way I’ve found to search for books by a specific author is to pull up one particular book by that author. Then click on the author name on the title details page and you’ll be linked to a list of books just by that same author.

Feel free to pass your comments about the search function on to OverDrive by filling out their feedback survey — you could even win an iPad! 🙂

    Hope this helps!

Any idea why the mobile version of the site doesn’t show Kindle Books? If I go to the site on my computer, I can see Kindle Books, but if I use my iPhone (which has a Kindle app, plus I’m usually carrying my eInk Kindle!), I can only see OverDrive READ and EPUB eBooks. It’s kind of annoying, because there’s been a number of times I wanted to check out an eBook when not at home, but if I did, I’d have to read it on the OverDrive app instead of my eInk Kindle.

    Hi Matt,

Stay tuned — as far as I know, this is scheduled to be implemented in the next site update later this month 🙂
