I disagree that this is good news. I honestly feel that fewer checkouts would be more beneficial. The wait time is long, especially for popular titles, and honestly, who can read 20 books in a reasonable amount of time? All this does is make the wait time even longer for patrons who wish to download a book. I think three-five downloads would be more practical and would give people a better chance to get a hold without waiting months to do so, as I have.
Several friends and I have also discussed the newer ebooks that are being offered. It seems that that more and more are fiction, especially romance and other lighter reading. Many of us would like more nonfiction offered.
Thank you for offering this opportunity for input.
Thanks for the feedback, although I’m sorry you didn’t find this to be good news. KDL’s eBook collection has grown significantly over the past two years, so we feel that the collection is now large enough to accommodate higher checkout limits. Families with young children and those going on vacation especially appreciate the higher amount of checkouts. We also continually purchase additional copies as holds grow.
While we are still occasionally limited with what we can purchase due to publishers, we are often able to purchase title suggestions. We welcome you to use the request form within OverDrive or the form on our website to share your suggestions for purchase:
