Not all the new teen books are about vampires and werewolves. There are a lot of realistic fiction, books set in a world like ours, with events that could really happen. Lost for Words by Alice Kuipers is centered around Sophie. Sophie is struggling to communicate with everyone around her. Little by little the author reveals the event that changed Sophie’s world as well as Sophie’s struggle to reconnect with her friends and family. If you don’t mind the slow reveal, this is a great book of loss and recovery.
The Exile of Gigi Lane by Adrienne Maria Vrettos was a book I didn’t think I would like. Gigi Lane is the next Head Hottie, destined to rule the private girls school of Swan’s Lake. But things don’t go as planned when the girl Gigi has tried to “help” improve herself brings Gigi down in front of the whole school. Gigi is sent away for the summer and returns ready to pick up where she left off. But things do not go as she plans! Gigi, with the help of her best friend Deanna, discovers the truth behind the schools dwindling money issues and her own true self.
