Josh Malerman (who, mark my words, will soon be bestselling author Josh Malerman) will be at Schuler Books & Music on 28th Street in Kentwood at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 16. Go. Please, go.
It was several months ago, but I haven’t stopped thinking about this post-apocalyptic, stark and terrifying-in-broad-daylight novel by Detroit’s Malerman (also the lead singer of rock band The High Strung). The clipped dialogue and short, tight sentences matched the book’s “frantic in a sort of hopeless way, really” pace. It’s crazy-original, and just wicked, wicked good fiction.
Universal Pictures has already optioned the movie rights — of course they have, and it has the potential to be a terrific flick. But to get the full effect, read the book.
