The new library is beautiful and will be a great asset to our community. However, I find it to be a shame that this resource will continue to be underused because of the current limited hours. I could have done without a new library if I can’t get there when it is open!

Hi Chris!
Thanks for your comments on the new library. Caledonia Township did a beautiful job and we hope you enjoy this warm and inviting space.
In opening this new library, we expect to see an increase of 30-40% in library visitors in its first year. In anticipation of that increase, KDL worked to budget additional technologies, staffing and collections.
Sadly, we could not afford the staff needed to increase its hours. In 2011, we faced close to a million dollars in decreased revenue. We will see more in 2012. We would like to add hours someday and hope for a better future for our libraries.
Thanks for your support!

I do agree with Chris George that extended hours would be helpful to the community, I also understand that budget it always an issue. I would be willing to volunteer several hours a week if it would help make the library more available to all. If there are others that could also contribute some time perhaps we could coordinate a group of supportive citizens.
