On Saturday, June 14 the Grand Rapids Griffins gave away free bike helmets to children at the Lids at the Library event, part of the Griffins’ annual Put A Lid On It! helmet safety campaign. Volunteers from the Griffins, Priority Health and Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids fitted children ages 1 to 12 and distributed bike safety information at the Wyoming and Gaines Township branches of KDL, as well as two branches of the Grand Rapids Public Library.
The helmets, paid for by the Griffins, are distributed at various Safe Kids events around the community. The Griffins also give away vouchers for two free tickets to a Griffins game to anybody aged 17 and under who signs an online pledge to wear a bike helmet. To further promote bike safety, police in the Kentwood, Wyoming, Holland and Grand Rapids areas will be “ticketing” helmet-wearing kids with Griffins ticket vouchers all summer.
