Finnikin was born into the proud kingdom of Lumatere, the son of the King’s guard’s leader and friend to the heir. But everything is lost during the bloody takeover by the impostor and the resulting curse that envelopes the kingdom in an impenetrable mist, separating those who managed to escape from friends and family. Ten years later Finnikin sets out on a quest, along with a mysterious girl who claims the heir is still alive, to reclaim Lumatere for her people.

Melina Marchetta is the author of the Printz award winning book Jellicoe Road as well as other teen books.
