Word Wise – Teen Poetry Contest
It’s that time of year again — National Poetry Month is upon us! Throughout the month of April, KDL is hosting our eighth annual Word Wise teen poetry contest.
From April 1 to April 30, teens are invited to submit their original poems online or at their local KDL branch. Winners will be announced mid May, and each winner will receive a $50 gift card to Schuler Books & Music. The winning poems will be published on the KDL website. Take some time to check out our teen page for a complete list of rules and an online entry form.
If you are interested in reading poetry in honor of National Poetry Month, or looking for a little inspiration, check out a list of teen poetry books that are KDL staff favorites. We are looking forward to another month of great poetry submissions. Happy writing!

There’s things in life that are not so bright,
As I pray I say “God thank you for letting me live another day.”
My life isn’t great, but I was taught to appreciate.
It’s tears that makes me think the way I do,
Thoughts that make the actions.
I’m not trying to live wrong, but how am I going to make it right when I really don’t do much praying at night.
I’m thankful for what I have and happy this is about to be my past.
Still deciding how I’m gonna be welcome my future.
I made it this far but yet still more thinking,
Once things okay I know it won’t stay that way.
Just trying to save some grace so God can have me another place to stay.
