I really wish I knew this before I went to the library with my kids. Next time you close unexpectedly could you please post signs on your buildings explaining why you are closed and when you will re-open.
I agree with Michelle. I checked WOOD-TV’s closing announcements on their website right before I left the house. The library was NOT on that list. None of the surrounding schools were closed either, so I’m baffled. We went to the Cascade branch, saw lots of angry patrons in the parking lot, and called the phone number. There was no annoucement on your recording either. We’ve been driving around all morning and the roads were fine and we saw no ice at all. I’m disappointed in this shoddy customer service. You’re all usually so wonderful. I had two crying kids in the car and no answers for them on why the library wasn’t open.
I am also in agreeance. I checked Wood TV closings and saw no information about any of the libraries so I packed up my kids and drove to the library for story time. Many confused patrons and sad kids in the parking lot. There should have at least been a sign posted on the door. Please consider posting your closing on your door as well as on Wood TV if you choose to close again. Even though the roads were not bad, if you feel they are bad enough to close the library, then you should have your closing on TV so that we don’t go out on the roads to go to the library and find that it is closed. Thanks in advance for considering this.
We certainly apologize for the inconvenience — the decision to close our branches is never taken lightly. This decision was made to safeguard not only our patrons but our staff members as well. As a result, staff members were not available to post closing notices in the branches. We did however, post closing information to our website as well as submit to local media outlets, including WOOD TV, WZZM, FOX 17, and others. Unfortunately, once the information is submitted, we have little control over when the information is posted. We do, however, follow up if we find that the information has not been posted — as we did with WOOD TV. While we certainly try to distribute closing information to as many outlets as possible, I would always encourage patrons to check our website if access if available.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. There are few things more frustrating than going someplace and finding that it’s closed (especially during normal business hours). We will certainly do what we can to make sure that closing notifications are sent promptly and to the appropriate outlets. We hope you will visit us again soon.
