Summer Reading Club is Coming Soon!

Summer Reading Club is just around the corner! Starting June 13, the whole family can sign up for KDL’s Summer Reading Club and have fun reading this summer! This year, the club runs from Monday, June 13 to Saturday, August 6.

With new activities for babies and adults, KDL’s Summer Reading Club really does offer something for everyone! There’s Baby Bingo for babies 0-18 months, One World, Many Stories for kids 18 months through 5th grade, You are Here for teens grades 6-12, and Novel Destinations for adults. Meet your reading goals and enter to win great prizes such as gift certificates, a new bicycle, and even a Barnes & Noble Nook Color eReader.

KDL is also offering an exciting line-up of summer programs, including Animal Crackers Petting Zoo, Master Arts Street Theatre, Zumba Dance Party with Aimee, Summer Carnivals, and so much more!

Not only is KDL’s Summer Reading Club a great way to have fun this summer, but it’s also an important step in helping to prevent what’s known as summer reading loss. Studies show that “students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of summer vacation.” The Kent District Library aims to help prevent summer reading loss by providing programs and activities that encourage learning while children and teens are away from school. By developing these habits now and making learning fun, we hope to help people succeed in school and in life.

Sign up for the Summer Reading Club starting June 13 at any of KDL’s 18 branch locations.

    Hi Lara,

You can sign up for the Summer Reading Club at any KDL branch beginning June 13. More information about the clubs will be coming soon to the KDL website. Basically, for every four books you read, you can enter a drawing for a cool prize (for the teen and adult clubs). Grand prize drawings will take place after August 6, and a staff member will contact you if you have won.

    Happy reading!

  3. Juanita Says:

Is there a specific reading list for the club or can we just read random books?

  4. Katie Says:

    Hi Juanita,

In the adult club, we ask that one out of every four books you read is selected from the Novel Destinations booklist or display. The other books can be of your own choosing.

Kids and teens can make their own book selections.

Are their prizes for the kid and baby book club. How will the club work for them?

  6. Katie Says:

    Hi Sara,

In Baby Bingo, every time you do one of the fun, simple activities (sing the ABC song, build with blocks, etc), you can put an X through that square. When you get a “Bingo,” you receive a free rubber duckie for your baby! Fill up the whole card to receive a board book.

Kids are asked to put a sticker on their reading calendar each day they read or do one of the suggested activities. They can bring in their completed reading log to get some cool rewards and enter to win a bike and other great prizes!

You will receive detailed information when you sign up for the club.

    I hope that helps!

Thank you so much… my kids love to read but any little incentive to get them to read more is awesome. We can’t wait to sign up!

June 13th can’t come soon enough for my family. Between me and my four kids, we’re a family of readers and are looking forward to being part of the reading club whether we win or not it’s just the fun of reading and seeing how many books we can read in a certain amount of time. Come on June 13th.
