Cooking for the Holidays?

You no longer need to search through all your cookbooks to find a new recipe to try out.  Through the internet, you can have access to a huge recipe collection!  Google (or any other search engine) is a great way to do a general search.  Use part of a recipe name or ingredients to find a wide variety of recipes.  There are also a lot of sites dedicated just to recipes.  Allrecipes.com has categories right on the main page and if you sign up for a free account, you can create a cookbook online with all your favorite recipes from your own collection as well as the new ones you find on the site.  Do you enjoy watching cooking shows on TV?  The Food Network has a website where you can find recipes by your favorite chef.  Maybe you prefer the more traditional books.  Betty Crocker has many recipes available online too. Did you see a recipe in a magazine that you had to try but already recycled the magazine?  Try the magazine’s website like Woman’s Day.  And don’t forget the sites from producers of baking products like Hershey’s (one of my favorites).  The possibilities are endless!

There are so many recipe sites on the internet that it would make this blog way too long to list them, but if you have a favorite site for recipes, feel free to leave a comment below.

Yeah, the allrecipes site even has an event this month where they release a new Christmas cookie recipe each day. What fun!

All recipes is one of my favorite sites. It is so easy to find great recipes and with the ability to rate the recipes it is easy to seperate the good ones from the bad ones just based on all of the previous ratings. I also love that everyone uses the comments on a recipe to finetune it so if you want a healthier version, or one without a certain ingredient or something similar, just look in the comments and chances are someone has already explained how to make it that way. It is a great resource.

My favorite part of allrecipes is the ability to change the number of servings and the recipe will automatically calculate the new measurement portions…fractions and I have never gotten along well ;-)

I agree, that nubmer of servings feature is really awesome. However, you need to be careful with it. If you don’t change the serving numbers in a fairly even way you end up with some odd measurements for your ingrediants. This is not always a problem, but with certain ingredients, like eggs for example, this can be tricky.

I just used allrecipes today to find a recipe by the ingredients because I didn’t know what it was called. So from white chocolate, marshmallow & peanuts, I found what I needed!
