Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament

Join us on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 12:00-5:00pm for a KDL-wide Nintendo Wii Tournament at the Kentwood Branch! (4700 Kalamazoo Ave. SE)

It’s round 4 of our popular KDL Wii Tournament series, and this time we decided to go back to everyone’s favorite tournament game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In an effort to answer a few questions before they are asked, here are a few details of the game play:

  • It will be single player, with most battles consisting of 4 players.
  • The battles will be 3 minute timed battles.
  • There will be a few prelim battles before the top 28 participants are placed in the tournament bracket.
  • Wiimotes and nunchucks will be provided, but if you wish to use a classic remote or Gamecube controller you may bring one with you.
  • Not all of the characters and levels have been unlocked on the systems, but if any are unlocked throughout the tournament game play they may be used.
  • There will of course be prizes for the winner and runner-up as well as refreshments for all.

Let’s Brawl!

    When?!?!?!?!?! I need to practice!!!!!

  2. Josh Says:

It is this Saturday, December 13, from noon to 5:00pm at the Kentwood branch. Make sure to get as much practice as you can because I am sure there will be some good competition!

  3. Ben Says:

Do we have to be there at exactly 12? I may be able to make it if I show up a bit later.

  4. Chris Says:

This makes me a sad panda, I don’t think I can make it to the tournament, being in Kalamazoo and all. I’m super good and would love to battle different people than my brother and sister. If only a tournament were held at the walker branch…

  5. Josh Says:

I would think that as long as you are there close to noon you should be fine. If you show up to late to participate in the actual tournament, you will still be able to use the free play machines.

Also, just to clarify, the tournament is in Kentwood, not Kalamazoo. While this is still a bit of a hike from Walker, it is not nearly as big of a trip as heading to Kalamazoo. Hopefully we will see you there.

  6. Ben Says:

Just to clarify, how late could I show up and still get in the tournament? I just need an estimate, since I have something that ends at 12, and it’s about a half-hour away. I really enjoyed the last tournament, and I really hope to participate again. Thanks for your help!

  7. Josh Says:

Ben, it looks like as long as you are there and registered before 1:00 you should be fine.

  8. Ben Says:

    Awesome! Thank you!

  9. Glen Says:

    BRING YUR GAME PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Ben Says:

One last question. Will items be used, or not? I remember that some battles at the last tournament relied a great deal on the random nature of the items, and the significance of skill was lessened. While I cannot decide for the library, I would suggest using no items, which I know many would agree with. I would like to know, regardless, since my practice is affected greatly by the inclusion of items. Thank you for all of your help!

I also want to know if there will be items. I vote no items. So all I’d need if I show up is my controller?
