Introducing Encore

It’s here! Starting today, when you search the catalog from KDL’s home page (www.kdl.org), you’ll be taken to Encore, KDL’s new search interface.
This new system is loaded with useful features, such as:
-
Starting with one simple search box, you can find all the library has to offer.
-
Simple, easy-to-use design makes finding information a snap.
-
Cool features, including tag clouds, help you focus your search by format, library location, subject, and more.
-
Google-like relevance ranking ensures the best answer rises to the top of your search. You’ll also see highlights of suggested titles.
-
“Did You Mean?” feature eliminates confusion and corrects common spelling mistakes.
-
And much more! (See the screenshot below)
We’re very excited about the new catalog enhancements and hope you will be too.
Try it out and let us know what you think!

When I click “Advanced Search”, is it supposed to take me out of Encore and into LakeNet?
Also, how can I limit results by library? When I select the Location on the left, that library isn’t the first copy listed and I have to click on “show all x copies/volumes”. When limiting it in LakeNet it would only list copies owned by the selected library.

I like the feature that lets you limit search results by media format. Also, getting away from tabs (in lakenet, which annoyingly started on “copy status” first) to drop-down options (which show all details when you FIRST go to the item’s page) is a move in the right direction.
Some problems: Every time I click on “request it”, whether on the detail page or the results page, I get an error message (copied below). Same problem with trying to log in. The pages take a long time to load and my system froze up twice prompting a force quit of Explorer. Since switching to Safari (for PC), it hasn’t frozen up, but the same errors occur, and it still seems to take more work to run than lakenet.

I also am not able to request a book which is kind of the point of the program. I hope this can be corrected soon!

The log in page and request link both work now. Thanks!
By the way, the pop up for requesting holds is just wonderful!
