Well, this means that our KDL cardholders will have improved access to high-demand eBooks and eAudiobooks, including bestsellers and other popular titles. It’s just part of our commitment to provide a new level of convenience to our library users.

We’re confident that this change will result in a better user experience for our eBook/eAudiobook users, however, there are a few things to note along with this change:

We are very excited to offer this service to our KDL patrons and hope you’ll take the time to explore the new site. If you’re looking for a hands-on way to learn more about library eBooks and compatible eBook devices, we invite you to check out our OverDrive Digital Bookmobile events taking place next week on August 22 and 23 at our Grandville and Wyoming branch locations.

No late fees, 24/7 access, compatible with a variety of devices and FREE,
KDL’s eBooks and eAudiobooks provide unparalleled convenience to fit your busy lifestyle.

Please note: We are experiencing intermittent problems with the updated system. If you are having difficulty accessing your account or viewing account information, please continue to check back or call 784-2007 for assistance. Thank you for your patience and we hope to be back on track soon!

The site should be working smoothly again. If you experience any lingering issues, please report them using our Support Request Form. Thanks for your patience as we worked out a few initial kinks with the new system!

I have tried to log in to the KDL ebook site from both the MCLS link AND the ebooks.kdl site for a couple of hours now. The darn thing continually resets the server connection because it is busy. I have a digital hold that just came in and I really do not want to wait another five weeks to receive the book. This is not exactly a seamless transfer of services… Suggestions?

    Hi Melissa,

There may have been some brief interruptions in service while the switchover was happening, but everything appears be be running smoothly now. Please note that you will no longer be able to access your account from the MCLS site, but your holds have been moved to the new http://ebooks.kdl.org site.

Please try logging in again, and if you continue to experience problems connecting, fill out our support request form at http://www.kdl.org/books_and_more/go/digital_support_form and we’ll have the OverDrive tech support team look into the issue.

    Thanks,
    Sheri

I have also been trying to login to this new site. When I click on your link to go to it all I get is: “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”. It won’t let me login or view my account… nothing. :( I have a book on hold that I need to download by tomorrow or it goes to the next person.

  4. Sheri Says:

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting us know about the login issues — it does not appear to be affecting everyone, but we have received multiple reports of users receiving a “connection has been reset” or similar error. We have reported this to OverDrive’s tech support team, and they are looking into the problem. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we hope to be up & running smoothly again soon!

    Thanks,
    Sheri

    Hi everyone,

OverDrive is still working to resolve this login issue, which is affecting a small number of users. If you are one of them and have a hold that is about to expire, please contact us by emailing webmaster@kdl.org or calling 616-784-2007. We can then log into your account for you and check out the hold so you don’t lose your place in line. (You will then still have 21 days to return to your account and download the checked-out title.)

    Thanks,
    Sheri

    Hi Sheri,
I just wanted to let you know that the login link appears to have been repaired. Yay! I was able to grab my reserved book and will be downloading it shortly (happy me!). Do you have more information regarding the mobile digital library? Will they help me force my iPad to cooperate with the OverDrive download? : ) Also, do you know if KDL will soon add the “perpetually available for checkout” picture books that we could check out through MCDL? Thank you!

  7. Becky D Says:

I can get into my account on my laptop, but not my other computer. My WishList is gone, but my books on hold are there.

  8. Jan Johnson Says:

I, too am receiving thre internet connection cannot be found, and I have a book expiring today. Thank you, Jan

    Hi Melissa,

The Digital Bookmobile will be at the Grandville branch on Monday from 1:00-6:00pm, and at the Wyoming branch on Tuesday from 1:00-6:00pm. They should be able to help you download eBooks to your iPad, but feel free to check our new eBook help resources at http://www.kdl.org/books_and_more/go/downloads_help or give us a call at 616-784-2007 if you need any assistance in the meantime.

We have decided not to subscribe to the Disney Digital Books at this time, as there was some limitations to their use (they used Flash and therefore could not be used on iPads or other portable eReaders), and we instead devoted that money to purchasing additional children’s titles for our new collection (Berenstain Bears, Curious George, etc.) You can see all our Kids books at http://ebooks.kdl.org/BrowseKids.htm. Hope this helps!

    Thanks,
    Sheri

    Hi Becky,

Yes, the connection issue appears to be intermittent — some people have had success by switching to a different computer (as you did), or waiting and trying again later. OverDrive is aware of the issue and is working hard to fix it.

While we did buy copies of all titles that our patrons currently had checked out or on hold, it’s possible that some things in your previous wishlist did not meet that criteria, so we don’t own them yet. If you can remember specific titles, please feel free to request that we purchase them by filling out this form on our website: http://www.kdl.org/books_and_more/go/recommend_purchase_form.

    Thanks,
    Sheri

    Hi Jan,

I apologize for the difficulty in connecting to your account. OverDrive is aware of the issue and is working hard to fix it. If you have access to a different computer, you may want to try using that instead. Otherwise, please call our Patron Services Department at 616-784-2007 before 5:00pm today and they can log into your account for you and check out the hold so you don’t lose your place in line. (You will then still have 21 days to return to your account and download the checked-out title.)

    Thanks,

I have noticed that some of the authors on the kdl site do not offer the same offerings as the mcls site. Will we soon have all the offerings as before? I was working on a triology that on books 1 and 3 are offered in kdl. Can we access them on the mcls site or is that not an option any longer?

  14. Sheri Says:

    Hi Judi,

All KDL patron account information has been transferred to http://ebooks.kdl.org, so you will no longer be able to download items from MCLS. We do have a smaller collection of materials right now, since we’re just starting our new site, but we’re adding more all the time. If you have anything specific that you’d like us to add (especially if it’s a missing series book!), please fill out the “Recommend a Purchase” form at http://www.kdl.org/books_and_more/go/recommend_purchase_form and we can try to get it for you.

    Thanks,
    Sheri
