In September, we began our appeal to patrons to “Tell Us Your Story” about all the ways our libraries have and do impact your lives – and boy, did you ever. Hundreds of heart-felt submissions later, we’ve got the three winners of Schuler Books & Music gift cards:
Lisa Montgomery and Kay Kiel, coincidentally both Byron Township branch patrons, told us how the library has woven a thread through their lives and between generations of their families. Congratulations to both!
You can read their complete library stories in our new Seen & Heard feature, coming soon to our website.
Here’s what we really loved hearing: more than a place to borrow an ever-growing selection of materials, the library has, for so many of you, become a place to bond with children and grandchildren, neighbors and people who share similar interests; search for employment opportunities; go online for free; attend programs and meet new people; and so much more.
We also opened the contest to our library staff, who, it seems, know compelling stories when they hear them. We selected Spencer Township branch Library Assistant Robin Darling, who recognized the story of patron Cassandra Newman and her family as one that demands to be shared. Read about the Newman family in the winter 2011-12 Kaleidoscope Program Guide.
The “Tell Us Your Story” contest may be over, but your responses have prompted us to keep collecting your stories. If you have submitted or plan to submit something, you may be contacted by one of our Communications Specialists to be featured on our website and other media.
Thanks again for sharing your stories, and keep them coming!
