Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
If you are looking for a great book to read to round out your reading year, try Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. This is a unique and well-written book. Karou is an art student in Prague, but she has a strange job and even stranger friends. Karou runs errands for Brimstone who lives behind a magical portal door. The really strange part is that she brings him teeth, paid for with wishes. Since Brimstone raised her, she has spent many happy hours with him and Issa and doesn’t really mind their differences, that they are not human. Everything changes when hand prints start appearing on portal doors around the world and Karou is almost killed by the angel Akiva who somehow seems so familiar.
It seems so many teen books are getting turned into movies and this book has also been purchased by Universal!

A strange race of creatures implored with a disjointed plot makes for a difficult read. I am a fan of YA but I simply could not get into this book. It was a struggle just to drudge through the plot in its entirety. Even reading up until the last sentence, this book was strange and very underwhelming.

It is interesting how certain books appeal to some and are a struggle for others to read. I usually don’t like angel books but found this one to be refreshingly different!
