So far this summer I have enjoyed the following things with my grandson who is 4 years old; Last Saturday we visited the Critter Barn in Zeeland,my grandson and I read books together (I did most of the reading),we also played bubbles outside, and enjoyed drawing on the driveway with sidewalk chalk. Another fun activity we enjoyed very much was going to KIDSCONSTRUCTION at the Childrens Museum! The summer has just begun and I can’t wait to see what other adventures we will enjoy together!

  2. Kip, KDL Staff Says:

Thanks for letting us know what you have been doing so far this summer. It sounds like you and your grandson had a lot of fun! I hope you guys are able to have fun with some of the other categories as well.

  3. Caleb Terpstra Says:

My grandma was an awesome cook
She baked the cookies that I took
And when I saw them on the tray
I knew I could eat them the very next day
But then I found that the cookies I took
Were just a recipe from a book

  4. Kip, KDL Staff Says:

Thanks for submitting a poem. Very cool!

Wow! That sounds like an educational and action-packed summer.

  7. Caleb Says:

I wrote a poem about my favorite books, Pete the Cat.

    I like Pete the cat.
He has a guitar and a hat.
other cats don’t have stuff like that.
    That’s why I like Pete,
    He’s one cool cat.

  8. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Great poem, Caleb! Keep up the good work and have a cool summer.

  9. andrea Says:

I wrote a story about my time in Texas. When I lived in Corpus Christi

  17. Wendy Says:

Reading and reviewing books for kids.

  18. Kellie Groenleer Says:

Kellie and her mom are spending the summer apart from each other because of some training that her mom is doing. They are writing a summer journal of their activities so that they can “experience” the summer together.

  19. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

That sounds like a great way to share experiences and practice writing!

  20. Mindy H Says:

We wrote out our summer bucket list and are writing out journal cards for our Project Life project!

  21. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

I had to Google “Project Life” to see what you meant, and I’m glad I did. :) It looks like a great and creative way to preserve memories.

  22. Jera Says:

Waiter Rant was a great behind the scenes look at the food industry. It was funny and enlightening. I was not familiar with the blog, but enjoyed the book very much.

  23. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Great! That has been a popular book.

  24. Caitlyn Says:

Fun things I’m doing this summer: hanging out with friends, marching band camps, writing, reading, cosplayed, went to an anime convention, going to the library, learning Japanese, listening to JPop.

  25. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Super! Japanese is an interesting language with 3 alphabets, yet the pronunciation is pretty straightforward. Enjoy the Jpop music! (I like Puffy AmiYumi).

  26. Keyrsten Clark Says:

We have been to three of the programs this summer. My kids liked the magic show. We learned a lot about frogs and turtles at the burrowing beast class. Tonight was my favorite. It was all about butterflies.

  27. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Good job making use of the library!

  28. Fiona Moord Says:

This summer I wanted to write about the fun activities I was doing. I’m keeping a summer journal and it has been very fun. I’m going to share this journal with my teachers when I go back to school this fall to show all of the fun things I’ve been doing this summer.

  29. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Great! Your teachers will be glad to see it, and you might enjoy looking at this journal again years from now.

  30. Wendy M Says:

A few weeks ago our family attended the Magic show at the Wyoming Branch. It was a great evening out for our entire family. Even my teenage son had a good time. Thank you so much for the great events you have for families.

  31. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

We’re so glad you enjoyed it, Wendy! Thanks for the feedback.

  32. Amy Says:

We have had a busy summer so far. We spent 3 weeks up north in my hometown, attended many festivals, went to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, tubing, tried water skiing and even a high school reunion! Still have a trip to the U.P. coming up. Somehow we still manage to get to the library almost every week :)

  33. Julie Young Says:

I read books out loud to my five year old son every day. I enjoy reading to others. I have read the entire Breaking Dawn series out loud to my daughter.

  34. Julie Young Says:

oops this one was supposed to be in the talk section…the one I just posted. So for this one I was going to tell about the Magic Show that my kids and I attended at the Wyoming Library. It was phenomenal. I laughed and was very awed by the show. He even tells you how he did one of the tricks and in so doing does more and leaves you believing in magic. He is amazing with children and his audience.

  35. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Reading and staying active? That’s a recipe for a “magical” summer!

  36. Morgan L. Says:

I went camping in my front yard. I also picked berries. When I picked them
I thought it was so fun just picking berries!

  37. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Those are such perfect summer activities!

  38. Lorelei L. Says:

I read All in a Day by Cynthia Rylant on the Stories in Rhyme list. It’s illustrated by Nikki McClure who does these cool images by taking a black piece of paper and an exacto knife and cutting out the picture. She has several books at KDL. I liked All in a Day because it has a chicken. I have 20 chickens at my house who help me with my day!

  39. Toby, KDL Staff Says:

Wow! Not everybody can say they have 20 chickens at home. :)
